Basically my goal is to do a post after every series and since we're moments away from Opening Day at Fenway now is a good time to write about the first two series of the season.  Since I was travelling this weekend I didn't have time to write about the KC series nor did I see all of the much of the Texas series, but I'll do my best.

KC

Game 1:  Schilling awful.  Nuf said.
Game 2:  Beckett good.  Looks different.
Game 3:  Dice-K, according to Jimmy's brother who lives in Japan, did not have his best stuff.  Are you kidding me?  I think we're in for a treat.

Obeservations:

JD Drew looks like a good player.  He has a lot of plate command meaning he's patient and when he makes contact it's solid.  I was never comfortable with Trot, but this feels different.  I hope I'm right.

As long as Coco gets on base he's dangerous.  His speed is incredible.

Texas

Game 1:  I heard they couldn't hit
Game 2:  I heard they imploded
Game 3:  Curt Schilling good.  Big Papi can hit.  Papelbon is very very very good.

Observations:

You had to know Schilling would come back and pitch well even on a cold night in Tejas.

The second John Miller mentioned Papi was in a slump he smoked a line drive home run.  Thanks John for waking up the Papi.

I admit that I was more amped for the Sopranos and Entourage on Sunday so I was shocked when I switched back to the game at 10:30 pm to see the bases loaded with no outs in the 8th.  With one run in, one out and the Sox clinging to a 1 run lead Tito, knowing he had to avoid a sweep, does the right thing and brings in Papelbon.  I was so pumped to see him, especially after he dismantled KC on Thursday, but I was nervous that the situation was too tough to escape unscathed.  Then he quickly disposes of Michael Young, arguably the best hitter in the AL and Mark Texiera AKA the guy who would be the Sox first baseman if Dan Duquette didn't suck.  Once that was over you realized that when Papelbon enters a game you can almost guarantee it's over.  He's that dominant.  He's scary good.  Is there a more feared closer in baseball right now?   Oh and the whole WWE style entrance is so off the charts now.  Wakefield, a big faux-wrestling fan, had to have trained him on that one.

Misc:

Jimmy is coming to Dice-K's debut with me tomorrow night.  I'm so psyched to have my own Japanese interpreter.

Also, I get to see Dice-K's first three Fenway starts.  Seriously, when did Christmas come so early?
