Sox
Two problems. Hitting is slumping. Pitching is falling apart. That's a bad blind date right there. The pitching which is being decimated by injuries just might be a blessing in disguise. If this results in Hansen, Delcarmen and Lester being thrown into the ocean and asked to swim then I’m all for it. The trade of David Riske was an odd one(ojnly because nobody wanted Seanez or Tavarez), but having a lefty submariner in the bullpen could be fun. However, I’m having serious problems with how they’ve been playing. Let’s go back to May 22 when they hosted the Yankees for a 3 game series.
Vs NYY: 1-2
Vs TB: 4-0
@ TOR: 1-2
@ DET: 2-1
@ NYY: 1-2 (with 1 rainout)
VS TEX: 2-2
@ MIN: 0-3
Basically over the last month the Sox have put up a big shiny 11-12 record and it doesn’t look to be getting any better. Will they snap out of this? When? How bad is it that I knew they were going to lose last night and didn’t watch, listen or check the score of the game? I hate those feelings. They make me angry. Redrum.
Misc
In case you’re missing it the World Cup is awesome. It’s so infectious that you cannot help but be swept up by it. If you’re not watching it then shame on you.
Team USA was so bad on Monday that I wanted to pretend that they never even qualified. Sure the Czech’s are the #2 ranked team in the world, but to show zero effort (aside from two players) was disgusting. When the tiny island of Trinidad & Tobago, who are making their first ever WC appearance, can fight Sweden and England to the bitter end then how in the world can a talented team like USA look pathetic? Kudos to Bruce Arena for telling it like it is and publicly stating how badly his players stunk. They deserved the criticism and tomorrow will show you if they took it seriously. If they roll over to the Italians then we can say Auf Wiedersehen to the Yanks.
Terrel Owens can sign a football. Joe Horn can use a cell phone. Chad Johnson can perform an Irish step dance, but nothing and I mean absolutely nothing can top Ecuador’s Ivan Kaviedes lucha libre celebration.
Please check back on Monday to see if I survived tomorrow’s USA-Italy match. I’m serious. I might be swept up by a tempest and dropped on a deserted island or at least Revere Beach.
