Can You Dig It? 04.28.06

It’s so close to May, which is when I usually fire my first salvo at the team for doing things that irk me. Dropping two series in a row puts them on my watch list. If they don’t walk out of Tampa with at least 2 wins then I’ll be forced to go on the offensive. Speaking of offensive, the offense is showing the wear and tear from the lack of Coco. How much longer can they hold out? The pitching kept them together for a while, but every facet of the game has its hot and cold moments and right now everything has gone cold. Are we looking at a passing storm or a Noreaster? What bothers me about these last two losses is that you knew they were over after the first inning. That fight isn’t there right now. That fight that I wish everyone had on a daily basis, which I know is humanly impossible when you’re pampered like a pro. We have seen it already this season so rest assured that it’s there.
So Johnny the Jackass is coming back on Monday. I am not going to clap for the man. I’m not going to say thank you. He could be a Tiger for all I care and I wouldn’t do it. Not after the way he shot his mouth off. However, I would like to publicly thank Johnny Damon for helping me reconcile with the idea of Roger Clemens coming back. When you look at how both men left town they were both driving away in Brinks armored cars. Clemens said he wanted to win a championship with a team that absolutely had no chance of winning and Damon candidly left for our hated rival, a team that has a slight chance of winning. Clemens also hated the team’s management, which most of us secretly did as well and Damon – well Damon left for the money. Aside from staring up at the owners box, during his return to Fenway, Clemens essentially has kept his mouth shut regarding Boston. Damon couldn’t shut his mouth for over a month. We all know Johnny isn’t the brightest star in the Milky Way, but his comments were and still are ridiculous and annoying.
When I compare both scenarios side-by-side I can’t help but to have more animosity for the artist who formally looked like a caveman. Popping off at the mouth and whining about what is fair when your complaint involves $40 million or $52 million is probably my number one pet peeve. I expected it from Pedro. Never did I expect it from Johnny and that’s why Clemens can come back and receive my standing-O. Thank you Johnny Damon. I just knew you had one more good deed left inside of you.
