Just Go Back To Wherever It Was You Came From

I'm cranky. I cannot see straight and I think I lost 10 lbs since last Thursday. I woke up feeling a bit under the weather and it carried on throughout the day. I just figured it was some allergy or something taking control of my soul for a few hours. I tell myself a little rest may help. When 4:30 pm rolls around I find myself wrapped in 3 fleece blankets, shivering myself silly, while wearing a winter hat all the while it's almost 60 degrees outside. That night was the worst of my life. I didn't think I was going to make it and not just because of the physical ailments, but the psychological warfare a clock plays on you when you lay in bed staring at it tick off each minute. 8:30 am was my magic goal, because that is when the Dr's office opened. I got in for a 10:30 am visit and ended up with a giant swab jammed up my nose to test me for Influenza A. Note to self. Don't ever snort cocaine because the sensation is about as appealing as being the entertainment for Saddam Hussein's birthday party. Well it turned out to be positive and the Doc gave me a prescription for a wonderful little drug called Tamiflu. The thing is a miracle. Within a day I lost most of the aches and pains. The chills soon left me and by Sunday I could walk, slowly, but at least I could walk. Most importantly, my appetite came back which helped to elminate the flavor of Gatorade and Ginger Ale in my mouth. I was excited to write something, anything, prior to the weekend but good fortune was not on my side. I'm happy to be able to do simple things again, like type.
Here are some observations while streaming in and out of consciousness for four days armed with a remote and comforted by my couch.
Gerry McNamara may have put on the greatest "Get on my back boys" runs of any tournament I have ever seen. I don't care if it was the Big East Tournament. It could have been the NIT for all I care. This kid was on another level than anybody who played this weekend. It was a pleasure seeing those games. How did they get rewarded? The dreaded 5 seed. I think Jennifer Love Hewitt stared in that movie.
Boston College and Duke may have played one of the best college hoops games I have ever seen yesterday. Though on the losing end, it was the greatest game a BC hoops team has ever played. I hate when folks use the overdone boxing analogy, but it's the only way to describe this battle. The punching was back and forth all game long and they kept you on the edge of your seat until the final buzzer. It was that good and I hope to see it again on ESPN Classic sometime this week. I'm praying BC makes an inexplicable run and lands in the Final Four, because they very well could meet up with the Dukies again. I would love to see them go at it for a third time this year. On a side note, I was never a fan of BC moving to the ACC, but seeing the way they have played Duke and Carolina I'm convinced they are quickly building the type of rivalry they had with Syracuse and UConn in the Big East. This is going to be fun.
Gonzaga and
Adam Morrison's mustache deserved better than a 3 seed.
I think when Tennessee was given a number 2 seed, the NCCA selection commitee meant the women's team.
God is still sadistic. It seems as if the same rules of being tall, white and unathletic still apply to this day. To prove my point all you had to do was witness the Holy Cross/Bucknell Patriot League Championship. When will that change? Stop giving the short white guys the skills.
Saw a few WBC games. It looked like those stadiums were pretty full and Puerto Rico looked like Carnival redux. Keep the fun rolling along folks. I wish I was there.
Finally, I think Paul Pierce scored another 30 points last night. The best thing is that this is becoming such commonplace that
Ryan Gomes is the enlightening story of the team right now. The kid is for real and the C's are one Scalabrine departue away from being decent.
